Tips from a Teacher!
July – August Tips
1. Students, start the year off on the right foot. First impressions go a long way. Demonstrate from the first day of school that you have a good attitude, and you are willing to put forth an effort. Teachers will respond positively to students they believe are trying their best. They will do whatever they can to help you succeed if they think you are doing your part. First impressions can last all year.
2. Do not hesitate to ask for help. Teachers love to see their students be independent and responsible. As a teacher, if my student asked me for help or sent me an email I was always quick to respond and eager to help.
3. If you don’t already have a planner, get one! Use it. Write something in it every day for each subject. Not just homework assignments and due dates (although that’s very important, obviously), write down a key word to signify what you learned in that class each day. (i.e. Math – reducing fractions, Eng – main idea, etc.)
(Parents, check your kids’ planners each day to see what they are learning in school. If they think you are concerned enough to check, they will be more concerned themselves. It’s psychological. Trust me, it works.)
